Suggestions for Grade Level Data Analysis Meetings
• Have the teachers come to the meeting with the Assessment Results Analysis sheet completed.
• Use the Assessment Results Analysis sheet questions as discussion starters.
o Are there trends across a
grade level on the most successful grade level indicators? On the least successful?
On the format of the questions? On the level of the questions?
o Investigate through discussion why individual students did particularly
well or poor. What does that mean? What can you do about it?
o Ask about satisfaction with the classroom scores and district scores. • Could you have predicted specific performances on specific questions? If yes, how did you use that information prior to the test administration?
o Looking at the data, what are the instructional implications? How will you implement them? What specifically will you do?
• Discuss with your teachers the components of the assessment that were particularly difficult/successful for their students.
o Lead the discussions to instructional strategies sharing among teachers. "How did you teach this indicator?" "What materials did you use that you felt were particularly helpful?" "Did you provide differentiated instruction? If so, what did it look like?"
o If your students need more practice with certain questions types/levels, what is your plan to provide them with this practice? Could you collaborate with other teachers who also have students with the same needs? What would this look like?
• Look at examples of classroom work for the assessment period. Is the classroom work aligned with the assessment?
o For example, were the same graphic organizers used with the students? What about the vocabulary used? Did you instruct the students how to answer higher level questions? Short answer and extended response questions?
o Did the work your students do in the classroom everyday look like the type of work they would be asked to do on the short-cycled assessment?
